ADAS Open Days: Meeting the growing demand for crops

We look forward to welcoming you to one of three farm open days delivered by ADAS Sustainable Crop Management staff. Four FREE regional demonstrations of HGCA, Defra and commercially- funded research are planned for ADAS sites during June 2010.

ADAS research centre open days will be taking place in June. These popular, free events, held in association with HGCA, will demonstrate HGCA, Defra and commercially-funded research aimed at maximising margins, improving crop production efficiency, and providing environmental benefits.

The Four events are:

  • 3rd June – ADAS Boxworth: Battlegate Road, Boxworth, Cambridge, CB23 4NN. 
  • 22nd June – ADAS Rosemaund: Brinkley Hill Farm, Brockhampton, Hereford, HR1 4SJ (this is a different site to last year) courtesy of JPF Clay. 
  • 24th June – ADAS High Mowthorpe: Towthorpe Manor Farm, Towthorpe, Driffield, East Yorkshire, YO25 3HD courtesy of R. Morrell. 
  • 1st July - ADAS Terrington: Nene Crown Farm, Hospital Rd, Sutton Bridge, PE12 9YR courtesy of A.J. and C.J. Large. 

A selection of HGCA projects that will be covered at the Boxworth, Rosemaund and High Mowthorpe sites are:

Wheat and OSR fungicide performance (Peter Gladders and Jonathan Blake)

N management – the new Wheat Nitrogen Management Guide (Roger Sylvester-Bradley) and SNS best practice (Daniel Kindred)

Wheat and triticale for biofuels (Richard Weightman)

Dormancy in grass weeds (Sarah Cook)

Pest Thresholds (Steve Ellis)

At each of these sites the event will start at 11.00am and finish at 4.00pm, with refreshments available throughout
the afternoon. 

BASIS points and NRoSO Accreditation are available.

The projects that will be covered at the Terrington Site will focus on yellow Rust and will include:

Fungicide performance

Varietal differences

Commercial demonstrations

At the Terrington Site the event will start at 2.00pm and finish at 5.00pm with refreshments available throughout the afternoon.
