ADAS proves resource efficiency makes good business sense

Kitchen Range Foods was keen to extend its existing resource efficiency programme and commissioned advice from ADAS to audit electricity, gas and water use within the manufacturing processes.

Kitchen Range Foods is a highly successful food manufacturing business turning over 20 million pounds and employing 188 staff. The company is part of the Marfrig Food Group, which also includes Moy Park. Kitchen Range Foods has two factory sites in Huntingdon and Peterborough, between them producing and distributing further processed vegetables, non-meat meal substitutes and bakery products.

Supplying major customers puts the company under continual pressure to maintain a competitive cost base and at the same time improve its environmental performance.

As a result of the project, Kitchen Range Foods will benefit from annual savings in energy costs, achieving potential savings of up to £32,000 over the two sites, with the following specific benefits identified:

• Optimisation of day and night time tariff electricity by improved management of refrigeration and cold stores, with potential savings of £2,800 per annum;

• Reduction in spiral cooling energy, saving £7,600 per annum;...
