ADAS and Brook Lyndhurst have been commissioned by WRAP to undertake a series of consumer food waste prevention reviews for a range of Courtauld Commitment Signatories.
ADAS, working in partnership with the sustainable development consultancy Brook Lyndhurst, has been commissioned by WRAP to undertake 30 tailored consumer food waste prevention reviews for a range of Courtauld Commitment (CC2) signatories. The Courtauld Commitment is a responsibility deal aimed at improving resource efficiency and reducing the carbon and wider environmental impact of the grocery retail sector covering both retailers and producers of branded products.
The WRAP project has been developed to support CC2 signatories to achieve the target of reducing UK household food and drink waste by 4% by 2012. Currently, WRAP estimates that each year UK households throw away 8.3 million tonnes of food and drink at an estimated cost of £12 billion and an estimated carbon impact of 20 million tonnes CO2e.
The reviews undertaken by ADAS and Brook Lyndhurst are focused on either brand or own-label category food products and will identify potential opportunities for changes to, for example, the packaging, labelling, merchandising and communication that might help consumers get more out of the food they buy and waste less. Reviews comprise of in-store visits, online investigation, analysis of the WRAP 2011 Retailer Survey as well as using existing literature from WRAP and relevant waste prevention information to develop a written set of confidential recommendations for the CC2 signatory to reduce consumer waste.
