Farmers and landowners have the chance to discuss even more opportunities on renewable energy with ADAS specialists at this year’s Royal Welsh Show. Come and see us at stand CCA777 in the countryside area.
With the introduction of the new feed in tariffs introduced in April last year, and its recent changes, ADAS has had considerable interest from landowners for advice on installing farm renewable energy generation systems to create an additional income source for the farm business.
Cate Barrow, ADAS Wales Group Manager said: “Each farm has different resources and facilities available to it and we are looking to add value to what is being produced on farm by reviewing suitable alternatives which would help create alternative income streams”.
ADAS staff on the stand will also be giving guidance on how to proceed with proposals including a range of options for electricity generation from both wind turbines and solar panels.
ADAS is also featuring the services which they offer to farmers as part of the Welsh Government’s Farming Connect services. These new contracts will begin in September 2011 and will run until December 2013 when the current Rural Development Plan ends.
ADAS has also recently been awarded the Whole Farm Plan contract and delivery within the Farm Advisory Service. These services include consultations to look at Business issues involving planning, resource management, manure management plans, design services on dirty water and slurry management, nutrient plans, technical advice on farming enterprises and business plans for young farmers under the Young Entrant Support Scheme (YESS).
For farmers who are in ‘Catchment Sensitive Farming Areas’ ADAS provides advice and solutions on nutrient use and organic waste solutions, as well as NVZ advice for farmers in Wales who have to comply with these regulations.
With applications for the new Glastir agri-environmental scheme needing to be completed again this year, farmers need to prepare their plans during the autumn and early winter. ADAS consultants will be able to explain what is needed in order that the plan meets the aims of the scheme and fits in with the farming systems adopted on farm.
ADAS is also delighted to announce that it is part of a new Consortia to deliver the Knowledge Transfer element within Farming Connect. With strategic partners, it will be providing a range of expertise within the programme through workshops, fact sheets, meetings and events.
