AONB Management Plan available online

ADAS GIS and software specialists have developed an on-line GIS tool to make the management plan for the North Wessex Downs AONB more accesible to stakeholders.

The North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is the largest protected landscape in southern England. With the introduction of the Countryside Rights of Way Act 2000, local authorities were tasked with preparation of a management plan for AONBs. Complex and multi-faceted in nature, these plans needed to be easily understood by the public and readily distributable to a diverse range of stakeholders.

ADAS was tasked by Hampshire County Council with the development of a suitable format in which to present the management plan. It must appeal to a range of interested stakeholders and occupy a format suitable for online distribution.

ADAS developed a user-friendly pilot web-site allowing the information to be viewed from a number of different starting points, by area or location, through textual themes, objectives or policies.
