Advance action saves EDF Energy’s capital works programme

ADAS advice to EDF Energy on protection of wildlife within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Beauty in Kent meant that permission for vital improvements to their routes could go ahead without any significant delay.

EDF Energy is currently carrying out a major 5-year capital works programme that includes the “restringing” of a large number of 132kV routes.

The first to be upgraded was a 26km route running across the Weald of Kent, part of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This meant EDF Energy had to apply for a Section 37 licence, which prompted the Kent Wildlife Trust to object as the route ran through a number of environmentally sensitive sites.
