ADAS is launching a sophisticated screening tool that allows for its renewable experts to quickly identify feasible development sites which have a higher chance of gaining planning permission.
For sites to have a higher chance of obtaining planning consent, farmers and landowners need to consider around 10 factors in their screening process. These include distance from residential areas, conservation zones, national parks, radar and telecommunications masts to identify whether sites could be suitable for development.
Jon Abbatt, Head of Environment said, "It is very difficult to find suitable areas for wind farm developments and traditionally when sites have been submitted for planning, only around 50 per cent have been successful. We hope that the development of our new screening process will increase this figure and allow for suitable sites to be developed."
“Wind farms have an important role to play in the UK’s renewable energy plan and this tool will help us to select more suitable locations faster”.
ADAS will be launching the screening tool at the Farm Energy Event on 6th December at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. The event offers farmers and landowners the chance to benefit from some sensible, impartial and practical advice about how to generate long term revenue streams.
Jon Abbatt will be talking about on farm energy opportunities in the Energy Matters advice area at the event. He will be looking at the various opportunities offered by a range of wind and solar PV systems and the potential a site can offer to earn income from generating renewable energy.
ADAS develops single wind turbines projects for farmers through our development company Resolved Renewables.
