Energy efficiency saves money for food and drink businesses

In recent energy efficiency projects for clients, ADAS has identified 10% savings, sometimes nearer 20% savings in energy costs, achieving close to £100,000 savings year on year for some companies. In addition, businesses also secure reduced carbon emissions.

With rising energy costs, many food and drink businesses continually need to assess energy use within their businesses and identify energy saving opportunities. Energy savings can often be identified with little or no need for capital investment.

The ADAS Energy Efficiency offer includes:

Energy Mapping – electricity and gas – mapping of energy use and identifying peak use and unproductive waste energy;
On Site Audit – understanding the manufacturing process and aligning energy maps with specific equipment within process;
Sub metering - targeted monitoring of high energy use equipment using individual sub meters;
Prioritised Action Plan – recommendations for bespoke energy efficiency savings, presented both as actions requiring no capital outlay and actions requiring capital spend together with investment and payback appraisal.

Where the ADAS approach has been particularly beneficial to companies is in identifying the hidden energy savings. Many companies have achieved the quick wins – switching lights off, switching equipment off, when not being used – often achieving the first 10% energy savings, but the ADAS input has found the next, more challenging, 10% of energy savings, identifying both peak energy use and unproductive energy use – waste energy and realising significant cost savings for our clients.

ADAS has independent Carbon Trust accredited energy consultants, and is able to access 100% funding for much of this energy efficiency work, provided the company spends more than £50,000 per annum on energy bills and has not received a Carbon Trust energy audit in the last 3 years.
