Resolutions and responsibility

Whilst our own New Year resolutions might not have made it this far, Corporate Social Responsibility means that the resolutions we make as organisations and businesses need to be more far reaching and sustainable. Within ADAS, we’ve focussed our attention on energy efficiency, recycling and renewable energy.

So what are we doing? We aim to minimise environmental impact by focusing on the major sources of emissions whilst maintaining operating efficiency. In the past twelve months ADAS has taken a number of significant steps to capture and report GHG emissions.

These include:
• New Travel & Subsistence system for recording emissions associated with all business travel
• New meters to capture and report electricity usage
• Submission to Carbon Disclosure Project on Company emissions
• Implemented a centralised process to capture and report organisational GHG emissions
• Implemented an energy management system compliant with BSEN 16001
• Proactive supplier engagement programme to identify carbon ‘hot spots’

Our intranet site reports direct and indirect emissions and ADAS is committed to working towards ISO 14064, external verification of our emissions reporting.

However, the ADAS mission involves much more than just reporting a carbon footprint. Our challenge is to help other organisations adapt to the inevitable impacts of climate change. Through our own initiatives, large and small, the staff at ADAS can demonstrate how a business can build sustainability into everything it does and thereby make the future a better place.

For example, through our Helping Hands scheme, one of our consultants is providing free support to residents in the small upland village of Killington, Cumbria, to reduce its CO2 footprint by 10 per cent.
