ADAS has a history of being part of government, and more than a decade on from privatisation the links with policy makers and policy implementers are still very strong.
ADAS staff often spend time in London or Brussels working with policy makers and implementers.
Technical advice takes a number of forms ranging from research into the understanding of issues underlying a policy and then the solutions which may be applied to solve the issue. For example the need to understand the science of how pollutants from agriculture get into water and then how to prevent or mitigate them. Once the science is understood the implications and requirements for practical and achievable policy instruments needs interpretation though dialogue between those providing technical advice and those developing the policy approach.
As an environmental consultancy working with a broad range of clients in the public and private sector, we often find that it is our understanding of working on policy and developing proposals for policy implementation that helps us deliver real results for clients who need to comply with legislation at ground level.
We’ve just launched a series of Rough Guides to Legislation on A+. The aim is to inform about key legislation which have to be dealt with in the UK. If you have particular legislation which you are aware of which we haven’t covered, please get in touch and we’ll do our best to add a Rough Guide for you. Click through to the Legislation guides in the News and Views section of the site.
