Crop protection priorities: potential impacts of loss of pesticides in UK

ADAS has completed a series of projects assessing the impacts of changing availability of pesticides. These reports cover all key crops and highlight the areas of greatest importance and action. The impacts are partly driven by the introduction of Regulation (EU)1107/2009 as well as resulting from other pressures on use, such as to ensure water quality and to meet commercial pressures.

One report, funded by Defra, summarises the key points from all the other reports and includes a range of horticultural crops. Click here to acces this report.

The priorities identified in this report have already been used by a range of funders to identify alternative control options and to promote best practice in pesticide use. The full detail for the different crops can be found in specific reports which include:

HGCA (covering cereals and oilseeds), Potato Council (covering potatoes) and DairyCo and EBLEX (covering grass and forage crops). Work is in hand on further crops.

Published reports can be viewed for:

* Cereals and oilseed (HGCA) at http://www.hgca.com/publink.aspx?id=5850

* Potatoes (Potato Council) click here

* Other grass and forage crops (DairyCo and EBLEX) at www.dairyco.org.uk and www.eblex.org.uk including a factsheet at http://www.dairyco.org.uk/farming-info-centre/research--development/new-factsheets.aspx
